THE AWARD CATEGORIES & VOTING METHODOLOGY

Since their inception, The Golden Vines® have led the way in pioneering a new way to judge ‘the best of the best’, and now, three years on, we continue to set the standard for excellence across the industry.

We have huge respect for people who are passionate about this business, and therefore their opinion is vital.

Ours is the first Awards to take into account the votes of industry professionals, whose opinions form the much-lauded Golden Vines® Report, dedicated to the incredible Gérard Basset. Based on extensive polling from a wide range of experts in their field, including Masters of Wine, Master Sommeliers, sommeliers at Michelin-starred establishments, wine merchants, brokers and importers, wine press and the winemakers themselves. It is by far the most extensive and in-depth industry poll ever conducted, and our numbers continue to grow year on year.

We’re proud to be game changers, and to champion, celebrate and elevate the true leaders in their field, the masters of their craft and the trailblazers of the industry. We thank all our contributors for being a part of this journey, and for their guidance in anointing only the worthiest of winners.

We’re excited to see what 2024 holds.

THE GÉRARD BASSET FOUNDATION

The Golden Vines® were set up to honour the legacy of one extraordinary man. Gérard Basset OBE MS MW MBA OIV MSc ASI World Champion. A true wine lover, a champion of the industry, and one of the greatest wine professionals of his generation.

Gérard understood that any industry benefits from its people, and that diversity, inclusivity and equity brings new, fresh perspectives and talent to an industry. Through training, funding, mentorship and development, the Gérard Basset Foundation is working to empower a whole host of new wine students, scholars, bursary recipients and grantees from underrepresented backgrounds, supporting them as they build and progress successful careers. They are enabled in this quest, thanks to the generosity of The Golden Vines® and Auctions, which donate all of the funds raised from the annual Live and Online Auctions directly to The Foundation.

Over the past two years, the Foundation has received over £3 million in charitable donations and funded over 55 scholarships and bursaries across more than 15 countries and over 20 nationalities, totalling approximately £480,000 and also awarded funds totalling approximately £875,000 to grantees.

We are proud to continue to work alongside such an excellent cause, and make a lasting difference to an industry about which we all care about so deeply.
