Luis D’Oliveira has offered to host the successful bidder and guest(s) to a very special tasting of their wide range of old and rare vintage madeiras at their lodge at: 107 Rua dos Ferreiros, Funchal, 9000-082.
The Estate / Distillery
The founders of D’Oliveiras were visionaries that saw the true value of Madeira Wine: its ability to improve over time. Therefore they started storing as much Madeira Wine as possible, letting it slowly mature inside the barrels for future generations to be able to enjoy it further. For that reason, D’Oliveiras is the only Madeira Wine company that owns Madeira Wine bottles and Barrels from as far as the 1850’s that can still be commercially purchased.
D’Oliveiras currently owns 5 antique buildings fully restored and within the centre of Funchal where it stores over 1 million litres of Madeira Wine. All of these buildings have their unique stories and some of them have even housed other old Madeira Wine Companies that were acquired by D’Oliveiras.
Each single bottle of D’Oliveiras Madeira Wine is different since it’s still handpainted the exact same way it was 100 years ago which makes it impossible for two bottles to look exactly the same.
The bottles are painted by an all-women team since the precision needed for the accurate painting of the bottles is more easily learnt by women than men, making it a legacy that has been passed between mothers and daughters and one more unique characteristic that makes D’Oliveira wines one-of-a-kind.
Five generations of the D'Oliveira family have continued the tradition of producing exceptional Madeira wines. Filipe D'Oliveira uses his skills, inherited from his late father, Anibal, to carefully curate and create the wines whilst his Uncle, Luis D'Oliveira continues to bring these unique wines to an appreciative, worldwide market.
