The Estate

Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo: with a history spanning over 250 years, Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo occupies over 120 ha of land along a 1.5 km stretch of the Douro River and has been listed since the first demarcation of the Douro wine region, in 1756, during the Pombaline era. The original wine cellar that dates to 1764 and the 19th century manor house with a chapel (1795) are harmoniously integrated into one of the estate's hills. The wines from Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo talk about our land reflecting the unique identity and the personality of each vintage. They are the most exclusive and authentic expression of our territory. Sophisticated, elegant and with a rare structure, these wines are the result of a careful selection of grapes, considering the particularities of each of the 41 plots existing in Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo.

Taboadella: although the records of Taboadella date back to 1255, historical research has revealed that it was occupied far earlier, and its original use dates back to the 1st century when it housed a Roman Villae, at the time an upper rural class estate that consisted of a house, a wine cellar and a barn, together with other small constructions tucked away in a forest of pine, oak and chestnut trees. This "Silvã", or forest in Latin, coincides with the name of the current parish - Silvã de Cima - and indicates how this agricultural community has persisted over time. In Silvã de Cima, next to the Taboadella vineyard, we find a wine press built in an ancient monolithic boulder, one of the oldest vestiges of winemaking in the Dão region. Taboadella’s wines derive from a historic terroir, which has a unique genetic heritage ensuring slow maturation of the grapes and leaving a mark of elegance, giving rise to a classic wines of great complexity and freshness, characteristic of an identity that only Taboadella can confer
