The Last Originals at Legends Lounge, PSV Eindhoven

January 2026

On Tuesday 13 January, Golden Vines returned to the Legends Lounge at PSV Eindhoven’s stadium for The Last Originals – Ungrafted Vines, Wines on Their Own Roots, a Legends of Wine chapter devoted to wines in their most elemental form. In this private‑club‑style space above the pitch, guests explored the rare vineyards that still grow on their own roots.

The evening focused on ungrafted vines – planted on their own roots as they were before phylloxera reshaped the wine world in the late nineteenth century. Today such vineyards survive only in exceptional conditions of soil, isolation and care, yielding wines that are fragile, scarce and intensely expressive of their place.

Three estates brought this idea to life. Loïc Pasquet presented Liber Pater Tétradrachm 2021 and Liber Pater 2015, a visionary revival of pre‑phylloxera Bordeaux traditions. Isabelle Müller of Weingut Egon Müller poured Scharzhofberger Riesling Kabinett Alte Reben 2016 and the legendary Scharzhofberger Riesling Eiswein Franc de Pied 1983, benchmarks of Mosel finesse and longevity. Thibault Liger‑Belair completed the line‑up with Moulin‑à‑Vent “Les Vignes Centenaires” 2016 and “Les Champs de Cour” 2016, marrying Burgundian precision with Beaujolais’ oldest parcels.

Restaurant Odille* and chef Casimir Evens provided the culinary framework, bringing a one‑star Michelin kitchen defined by French technique, modern restraint and exceptional ingredients. A five‑course menu—from Hamachi ceviche through Pulpo, Duck and Venison to a Pineapple, coconut, lemongrass and kaffir dessert—was calibrated to frame the wines’ clarity and balance rather than overpower them.

With the winemakers in the room, The Last Originals became a conversation about survival, heritage and terroir, rather than a simple tasting. True to the theme, the wines did not shout; they drew guests in—quiet, deep and insistently individual—offering a rare glimpse of what great wine can be when its roots remain entirely its own.
