The Best of the Best: The 2023 Golden Vines® Fine Wine, Rare Spirit & Experience Global Online Charity Auction, hosted on Crurated

In addition to The 2023 Sotheby’s Golden Vines® Live Auction, our second and equally exciting chance to bid on some truly phenomenal lots is The 2023 Golden Vines® Fine Wine, Rare Spirit & Experience Global Online Charity Auction, featuring over 130 of the finest bottles and experiences sourced from some of the very best in the business.

A must for lovers and collectors of fine wines and rare spirits, lots in this auction feature the finest from all over the world and are open to an international audience for bidding online. Hosted by digital wine platform, Crurated, the joy of this particular event is that bids can be submitted from anywhere, so even if you can’t attend it’s easier than ever to be part of the action. All you need to do is choose your lots and place your bids, knowing that all proceeds go to supporting the work of the Gérard Basset Foundation, promoting diversity and inclusivity within wine, spirits and hospitality.

In keeping with our mission to deliver the best, we diligently source the finest ‘money-can’t-buy experiences’ to supplement the fine wine & rare spirit bottles in each auction lot – moments, products and opportunities that only come along once in a lifetime and provide a real ‘wow’ factor for anyone who knows their luxury brands. We were among the first to do it, setting a gold standard which is sometimes replicated but hard to be matched.

Each year the number of lots has grown, and in 2023 we’re delighted to have over 130 outstanding products and experiences on offer. We’re hugely grateful to all the Estates & Distilleries who have donated something very special to the event.

Each lot is comprised of a package that includes large formats or rarities from some of the top wine estates and spirit houses globally, as well as a luxury experience. For many of the lots, the bottles come with NFTs (non-fungible tokens) so that you can easily trade the bottles, along with free storage. As for the experiential part, in the past these have included VIP tours, tastings, fine wine lunches with the owners and/or winemaker, and a stay at the château or luxury hotel where possible – for a group of individuals, generally varying from 2 to 10.

Global representation is extremely important to us and our previous auctions have featured wines and spirits from some of the world’s most prestigious regions and countries, including Burgundy, Champagne, Bordeaux, Piedmont, Tuscany, Napa Valley, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Argentina, Chile, South Africa, and Australia, as well as lots from brilliant but often overlooked countries such as Uruguay, Hungary, and Switzerland. In 2022 we even featured a kosher wine lot from Israel, reinforcing the Foundation's mission to champion diversity and inclusivity. Each lot comes directly from the Estate or Distillery, with the winners able to collect their bottles or have them shipped straight to their own home or cellar – guaranteeing excellent provenance, something extremely valuable to any sophisticated collector.

In addition, we also have a number of rare and highly sought after bottles and extravagant experiences donated by prominent fine wine & rare spirit collectors and connoisseurs, who have kindly chosen to support the cause. Since these collectors know their trade this once again ensures excellent provenance, so you can rest assured that you’re getting the best from the best.

With such a good cause at our heart, we want as many wine lovers to be able to participate as possible, and while some lots are expected to go for many tens of thousands there are also a number of more affordable options, making the auction accessible for all.

There are a number of reasons why fine wine lovers from all over the world decide to participate and compete in our Online Auction. Perhaps they want a particularly impressive bottle to build their collection or for their own outright enjoyment. They may be jumping at the chance to meet and build relationships with the Donor Estate or Distillery, or they may simply want to share an unforgettable moment with their family and friends. What unites all of our bidders, however, is their belief in the cause The Golden Vines® is aiming to advance through the work of the Gérard Basset Foundation.

The 2023 Online Auction is expected to be our biggest and best fundraising initiative to date, following on from the incredibly well-received and high performing 2021 and 2022 Online Auctions, which featured over 180 auction lots combined and helped us to raise over £2.2 million for the Gérard Basset Foundation in the past two years.

Here is what you can expect to find in our 2023 Online Auction:

Always wanted to gain entry to Petrus, the famed Pomerol estate? You can buy a very rare Imperial (6 Litre) of 1996 Petrus with a VIP tour, tasting and vineyard visit at the estate, followed by a private lunch featuring historic back vintages hosted by owner, Jean Moueix, at his family estate in Libourne for 8 guests. Finding it hard to gain access to top Burgundy estates? There are over 20 lots coming from Burgundy for you to choose from in the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. Champagne is very well represented from the likes of Krug, Salon, Charles Heidsieck, Boëhl & Kroff and an incredible lot from Dom Pérignon that includes a unique magnum collection of P3 from the 1966, 1976 and 1985 vintages, along with a lunch hosted by chef de cave, Vincent Chaperon, crafted by Chef, Marco Fadiga, for six guests.

Ever had an urge to visit Harlan Estate in Napa Valley? You and seven guests can do so, and also come away with a rare Double Magnum (3 Litre) of 2016 Harlan Estate signed by Bill Harlan. Trying to get hold of Magnums (1.5 Litre) of Klaus Peter Keller’s G-Max Riesling?  This is your chance, along with a picnic lunch with the Keller family at the top of his Schubertslay Vineyard.

The Italian lots, in particular, are impressive and plentiful, with Tuscany and Barolo dominating the field with offerings from Sassicaia, Biondi Santi, Il Marroneto, Ornellaia, Luca Roagna, Gaja, and many others. And if Japanese sake is your thing, why not stay with six friends at the Kura (brewery) of super-premium IWA in Toyama Province hosted by the one and only Richard Geoffroy, the former chef de cave of Dom Pérignon and now owner of IWA.

Along with the fine wine lots, there are also some unique rare spirit offerings, including up to four bottles of ten produced of a uniquely blended old cognac from Maison Camus in homage to the late, great Gérard Basset, along with a private dinner with the owner, Cyril Camus, in his private apartment in Paris for every bottle purchased. Or why not enjoy a private two-night stay for 8 guests at the beautiful Glenmorangie House in Scotland while tasting fabulously rare cask bottlings. And, if your budget doesn’t stretch to some of the top lots, there are plenty of mouth-watering lots in the affordable category, from every fine wine region on the planet.

This is a chance to be part of a fantastic, one-of-a-kind event, and help further a good cause. We hope you’ll be able to bid, and to those who do, thank you and bonne chance!
