The Best of the Best: The 2023 Sotheby’s Golden Vines® Live Auction

One of many exciting elements of The Golden Vines® Awards is undoubtedly our Live Auction. Taking place during our Dress-to-Party Charity Gala Dinner, it’s a chance for our guests to bid for lots generously donated by some of the world’s best and most recognisable brands, with all proceeds going to support the excellent work done by the Gérard Basset Foundation.

Past Lots have included a private tasting hosted by Kylie Minogue, a spectacular nine-course dinner at Massimo Bottura’s three Michelin starred Osteria Francescana accompanied by an extremely rare jeroboam of one of Italy’s most famous wines, Dal FornoRomano’s iconic flagship wine, Passito Rosso Vino Dolce Vigna Sere 2003 (previously called Reicoto) signed by owner, Romano Dal Forno, courtside tickets to see the Brooklyn Nets play in New York, and a curated private fashion experience in Florence with Gucci.

This year we have a number of generous donors, including:

  • The Golden Vines® Awards Michelin Star Chefs

  • Boucheron

  • Camus

  • Crurated

  • Gucci

  • Robb Report

  • ROLZO & La Maison d’Estournel

  • Sotheby’s

  • The Brooklyn Nets

  • VistaJet

to name but a few.

A world class auction needs a world class auctioneer, and our partner auction house, Sotheby’s, needs little by way of introduction.

Established in 1744, Sotheby’s is the world’s largest marketplace for art and luxury – a highly trusted, dynamic force that sets the standard in auctioneering. With one of the most formidable reputations in the business and a name that’s instantly recognisable to anyone with even a passing interest in luxury, art and antiquities, they have hundreds of years experience, helping an international community of collectors and connoisseurs to discover, acquire, finance and consign fine art and rare objects. With a discerning eye and careful selection process, a lot listed with Sotheby’s speaks for itself when it comes to quality and provenance.

Their reputation for excellence is backed by an unparalleled global network of specialists spanning 40 countries and 44 departments, which include Contemporary Art, Modern and Impressionist Art, Old Masters, Chinese Works of Art, jewelry, watches, wine and spirits, and interiors, among many others. Guided by a forward-thinking spirit of innovation, they host over 600 auctions annually, frequently garnering headlines for their record-breaking sales and the unique quality of their lots, most recently fetching record-breaking £85.3 million for Gustav Klimt’s 1918 masterpiece Dame mit Fächer (Lady with a Fan), one of the finest and most valuable pieces ever to be offered in Europe. In June they also took on the task of selling a selection of bottles from Golden Vines® Co-Founder Lewis Charter’s own expansive cellar, allowing bidders a unique chance to purchase bottles of outstanding provenance from a truly comprehensive and extensive collection.

Sotheby’s are thrilled to be partnering with The Golden Vines® for our 2023 Awards, and will conduct the evening’s Live Auction, bringing their typical verve, flair and showmanship to what promises to be one of the most exciting events of the weekend. What is key, the Live Auction will raise money for the outstanding and highly necessary work of the Gérard Basset Foundation, so you know that each bid is so much more than an indulgence; it’s going to help a very worthy cause, supporting inclusivity and diversity within the hospitality sector – something which we will all benefit from.

“Over the last two years, we have significantly expanded our support of charitable organisations by developing partnerships that provide greater awareness of each cause and our clients with opportunities to engage in new events and with different philanthropic causes. Our partnership with Golden Vines is a very exciting development for Sotheby’s Wine as it highlights the important need to enhance diversity and inclusion in the wine, spirits and hospitality industries, while being a truly world class event. It also resonates with our mission to broaden access to producers and their communities. France is emerging as a leader in charity wine auctions, where the wines are sourced directly from producers, and the fact that The GoldenVines’ third edition will be held in Paris is testament to the enthusiasm and attraction of international wine lovers buying in France.” – Amayès Aouli, Head of Sotheby’s Wine, Europe

The 2023 Sotheby’s Live Auction will take place on Friday 13th October during The Golden Vines® Dress-to-Party Charity Gala as part of The 2023 Golden Vines® Awards in Paris, France.
