The Estate

The Domaine Thenard is located at Givry, in Burgundy. The Thenard family own the domaine since 1842 when the Baron Paul Thenard married Françoise Derrion-Duplan, herself heiress of the vineyard and the winery. In 1873, Baron Paul Thenard bought 2 parcels of Le Montrachet. Today, the family is still the second biggest owner with nearly a quarter of the appellation. Now, the domaine is managed and owned by Jean-Baptiste Bordeaux-Montrieux, direct descendant of Paul Thenard, and his family, like his father did for 60 years. The domaine has: -Givry Rouge 2ha34 -Givry Blanc 0ha76 -Givry 1er Cru Les Boischevaux Rouge 7ha62 - Givry 1er Cru Clos du Cellier aux Moines Rouge 4ha49 - Givry 1er Cru Clos du Cellier aux Moines Blanc 1ha45 - Givry 1er Cru Clos Saint-Pierre Rouge Monopole 2ha16 - Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Îles des Vergelesses Rouge 0ha85 - Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jean Blanc 0 ha 17 - Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru 0ha90 - Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru 0ha54 - Le Montrachet Grand Cru 1ha83 We are making wine only with the grapes of the domaine. The winemaking is done as the most natural way as possible to let the terroir express itself in the purest way. The wines are aged in a cellar from the 17th century in Givry, dug in the rock 7 metres deep, which permits us to do our long maturation of 24-30 months to create fine and elegant wines with a great ageing capacity. To support the Gérard Basset Foundation, we decided to offer, a magnum of each of our 3 Grand Cru: - Corton Clos du Roi 2016 - Grands-Echezeaux 2015 - Le Montrachet 2009 This year, we have chosen to offer three different vintages, among the most beautiful vintages that the estate has seen recently. This gives a unique appearance to this lot with 3 magnums ready to drink but also able to be aged many years in a cellar. The auction lot winner will be received by Jean-Baptiste and his son André for a special visit and tasting of the family’s wines in their cellar. Then he/she will get the opportunity to share a lunch or a dinner with them to finish the experience.
