The Experience
A private escapade for 3 couples to Rioja Alavesa and San Sebastián, to enjoy a private tasting of historic vintages in the heart of Rioja Alavesa, along winemaker Jesus Mendoza and owner Jose Ramon Urtasun at Remirez de Ganuza winery. Followed by an intimate dinner and overnight stay at the luxurious Rothchild's property hotel Palacio de Samaniego and departing next day to the coast of San Sebastián, only to be delighted by a private dinner hosted by the prestigious 3 Michelin starred chef Pedro Subijana at his restaurant Akelarre, finishing the evening with a stay at the breathtaking Akelarre Relais & Chateaux hotel.
Day 1:
- Winery Private Tour and Tasting with Owner and Winemaker.
- Private Tasting at Winery: Historic Vintages and Limited Editions

Day 2:
- Transfer to San Sebastián

The Estate / Distillery
Creators of contemporary Rioja wines since 1989: founded in 1989 and located in the centre of Samaniego, Álava, at Remírez de Ganuza we produce contemporary Rioja wines . The winery has 80 hectares of its own vineyards. There are 70 estates made up of more than 200 plots in 9 municipalities in the foothills of the Sierra Cantabria: Labastida, San Vicente de la Sonsierra, Ávalos, Samaniego, Leza, Elciego, Navaridas, Laguardia and Elvillar.
Since our beginnings we have been known for revolutionising some of the traditional methods in the area, introducing improvements both in the vineyard and in winemaking. One of the most notable systems is that of separating the Tempranillo bunches into two parts.
The shoulders, with perfect phenolic ripeness, are used for wines with more ageing and storage potential, the Remírez de Ganuza Reserva and Gran Reserva , while the tips are used for the young carbonic maceration wine, the Erre Punto.
Everything is important at Remírez de Ganuza: the harvest, which is done manually in 12-kilogram boxes; the meticulous selection of grapes; the respect for them in the production processes; hygiene measures that border on obsession; and long ageing in new, mostly French oak barrels. No bottle of Remírez de Ganuza goes on the market without having spent a long time in the cellar. We believe that only time can make the wine develop the characteristics and style that we seek as winemakers.
To know Remírez de Ganuza is to understand the present of La Rioja Alavesa, a look at the tradition and the future of the creation of wines in the area.

IMPORTANT NOTE: the Donor of this Auction Lot indicated they will offer an additional Auction Lot to the underbidder. The auctioneers have determined that any underbidder within 10% of the Winning Bidder’s bid shall automatically purchase the additional Auction Lot. (Should you not wish to be included, ensure that your bid is more than 10% below the current Winning Bid price.) For underbidders who more than 10% below the Winning Bidder’s bid, the Auctioneer shall ask the Donor if they are willing to provide an additional lot at this price, and, if so, shall then ask the underbidder if they are willing to purchase the additional Auction Lot.
