The Estate
Tenuta San Guido is an historical family property of about 2,500 hectares in the heart of the Maremma, near the village of Bolgheri, on the Tuscan coast. Here, the balance between people and nature has developed a unique ecosystem, known nowadays worldwide for its excellences: the wines, the Razza Dormello Olgiata thoroughbred horses stud and the private nature reserve, Rifugio Faunistico Padule di Bolgheri. As early as the 1940's, Mario Incisa della Rocchetta understood that Bolgheri was one of the most extraordinary biotypes of Mediterranean Europe and began to experiment with some French grape varieties, concluding that Cabernet, in fact so far from the Tuscan tradition of Sangiovese, had the “bouquet” he was looking for. From 1945 to 1967, Sassicaia remained a wine reserved for family and friends. In 1971, the vintage 1968 appeared on the market for the first time. To make this possible, alongside the wisdom of Mario Incisa and the vision of his son Nicolò, the collaboration with the oenologist Giacomo Tachis, rightly considered the father of the ‘Renaissance’ of Italian wines, played an important role. In the following years, the foresight of Nicolò Incisa della Rocchetta, today Honorary President of Tenuta San Guido, lead the estate to become a modern company, combining the expertise of managers like the current President and CEO Alessandro Berlingieri and General Manager Carlo Paoli, with family heritage. Presently, the third generation of the family as wine producers is composed of five cousins, including Priscilla, Nicolò’s daughter. Being responsible for the External Relations of Tenuta San Guido, she represents and describes the indissoluble bond that exists between the family and the company. Tenuta San Guido is the result of both a very long tradition and an ethical message that have been passed on from generation to generation.
