The Estate

Ken and Teresa Forrester purchased this prime Stellenbosch property first planted to vines in 1689!! With a homestead built in 1694. This is home to the family and a flurry of furry dogs, loving their best life. Here they sought to live their dream and produce a benchmark wine.

Over the years Chenin Blanc emerged as the leading cultivar for this amazing Stellenbosch terroir, under the majestic Helderberg mountain, just 5 from the Atlantic in the bowl of False Bay. In 2000 Ken produced the first FMC with mentor and friend Martin Meinert, this wine won immediate acclaim and sold on auction at the Cape Independent Winemakers Guild for a record price on its debut. Since then the wine has been served at the 85th birthday of Nelson Mandela, at the opening of Scottish Parliament and is a firm favourite amongst sommeliers even featuring as one of 6 “blond” wines to be identified in the MS exam. A rich, audacious full bodied chenin, immaculately trimmed with fine acidity and a restrained yet voluptuous mouthfeel. Redolent of fresh and baked apples, hints of caramel and honey with a bright citrus, ruby grapefruit finish.

These wines age in a legendary way, still fresh and lovely after 20 years although the use of botrytis infected grapes during the multiple selections of harvest (21 selections in 2023 vintage) adds depth of colour with a sun- soaked golden hue.
