First ever Tokaj Essencia magnum produced from the 2022 vintage, signed by Istvan Szepsy Sr and Istvan Szepsy Jr.
The Experience
VIP tour to visit the best parcels, barrel samples, library wine tasting and overnight stay at a luxury hotel & fine wine dinner at the domaine with the Szepsy family for 4 guests.
The Estate
The Szepsy family has been producing wine since the 16th century. After difficult political circumstances, Istvan Szepsy re-established the estate in 1989, and built a new property. The focus of the winery is to produce the highest quality botrytised berry based Aszú wine. In the last 35 years the estate has focused on the choice of the Furmint clone selection which is the key importance in the development process. The botrytised aszú berries have the most unique taste and flavour between the grapes. In the autumn the perfect aszú berries are collected individually by hand, a daily pick is around 15kg per person. These are stored in a double bottomed tank until the end of the harvest and by their own weight the essencia, the free run juice of these perfectly botrytised grapes slowly starts to drop like honey. There is no higher concentration what the nature can make. Before this may was not allowed to bottle essencia and all the other traditional wines from Tokaj larger than 500ml size of bottle. With lots of effort from my family finally is the law changed and i would like to announce the first official essence in magnum, especially because these grapes were harvested in the same vintage like the Szepsy estate was awarded as the "Best European winery" and my father as a "Hall of Fame".The best season to visit Tokaj is the autumn because you can see, taste and understand the uniqueness of Botrytis Cinerea.
